Poppy Senegal Parrot
Description
Meet Poppy – A Spunky 20-Year-Old Senegal Parrot on the Hunt for Her Forever Home!
Hey there! I’m Poppy, a 20-year-old Senegal Parrot with a whole lot of spunk and a big heart. I may be in my golden years, but trust me, I’ve still got plenty of adventure and excitement in me!
Let me take you on a little journey through my past. I used to live with an elderly couple and had a special bond with the male, who sadly passed away. After that, the female couldn’t quite keep up with me, and that’s how I ended up here at RehomeCare Ltd. I was 18 years old when I came to my new family, and since then, they’ve learned a lot about me—my habits, dietary preferences, and just how clever I really am.
Health Update:
I’ve had my fair share of challenges, including some history with feather plucking, but don’t worry—my feathers are looking better than ever now! I’ve also had some issues with becoming egg-bound, but I’ve had surgery to help with that, and I get hormone injections twice a year to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I’m in pretty good shape, and my weight has been stable.
Personality & Quirks:
Oh boy, I am one curious and playful parrot! I’m super friendly and enjoy human company—especially if you’re willing to give me some attention. I love flying around the house, from room to room, and I’m known to perch on heads for a nice rest. If you stay still long enough, I’ll even give you a snooze on your hand!
I love playing “calling” games with my human friends, and I’ve got my special way of talking—usually in the mornings when I want to wake you up with my gentle calls. I’m a little shy with my words, but if we bond, you’ll get to hear them! Just don’t expect me to be quiet for too long. I can get a bit screechy if I don’t get the attention I think I deserve—after all, I’m a parrot, and I’ve got a lot to say!
Foraging is one of my absolute favorite pastimes, and I’m all about shredding paper towels—it’s like a treasure hunt for me! When I’m not busy with that, you can find me hanging out in the kitchen or by the window in the living room. I get a good 4-6 hours of playtime outside my cage each day, but I do love my afternoon naps, too.
Traveling & Adventures:
I’m also a great traveler! I love going on adventures to the park, the seaside, or even into shops and coffee houses. I may get a little noisy in busy places, but I just can’t help myself—I want to be part of the action! The car is no problem for me; I’m super quiet on long journeys, though I’m not a fan of traffic noise.
Foodie Alert!
Did I mention how much I love food? Walnuts and fruit are my absolute favorites, but I’m not a huge fan of veggies (who can blame me?). I tolerate some like cauliflower, carrots, and sweet potatoes, but my family sneaks them in when I’m hungriest. They also give me Nutriberries, sprouting seeds, and freeze-dried veggies to keep me healthy.
When it’s bedtime, I usually hop into my cage around 6 pm, and my family covers me up at 7:30 to 8 pm. I sleep soundly until around 10 am, ready to start another day of adventure!
Looking for a New Home:
Lately, things have gotten a bit complicated. I’ve over-bonded with the female adult in my home, and it’s caused some tension with the male. I’ve even growled, hissed, and bitten him at times. So, my family thinks I’d do best in a home with someone experienced who can handle my hormone-driven behavior. I’d also prefer a dog-free home, as I get a bit jealous when I’m not the center of attention.
So, that’s me!
I’m a parrot full of personality, quirks, and mischief. I love being out of my cage, soaking up attention, and enjoying positive interactions. If you think you can handle a cheeky, spunky parrot like me, maybe we’re a match made in heaven! Thanks for listening to my story, and who knows, maybe we’ll cross paths soon!
