Meet Billy – A Handsome, Cheeky Senegal Parrot!

Hi, I’m Billy, a 16-year-old male Senegal Parrot.

My Safehouse Mum says I’m a cheeky little sweetheart, but I prefer when she calls me handsome, which we both agree on!

I don’t say words, but I make all sorts of whistles and sounds that I love for you to mimic. Sometimes, I like to whisper them to ensure you’re paying attention!

My favorite thing to do is play under the paper at the bottom of my cage. I’ve worried about Mum a few times until she found me hiding there! I’m a master of escape, so all my cage doors are clipped shut for safety.

It’s a busy house where I am at the moment, with lots of people, three other birds, a dog, and a cat. I don’t mind them much, except for Safehouse Dad – he scares me a bit, so I’ve bitten him a couple of times to let him know. My favorite person is my teenage son. I always call him over, and I love having tickles and his undivided attention. I let the others tickle me too, but his tickles are the best!

I don’t step up, but I’m happy to come out of my cage for a little fly about until I find a nice head to land on. Depending on who the head belongs to, I might preen them, preen myself, or, if it’s my favorite, I’ll try to take his nose ring out just for fun! Once I’m done, I’ll put myself back in my cage.

I also love a good bath in my water bowl, and don’t be surprised when you see me drinking with my feet – after all, I can’t risk getting my beak wet, can I?
